Program Description:
IndiaWalking
This August, let us embrace the colors, flavors, tourist sites, and scope of food and agriculture in India. India is considered a global agricultural powerhouse, ranking as the world's largest producer of milk, pulses, and spices, while also being the second largest producer of crops like rice, wheat, cotton, sugarcane, fruits, and vegetables. India processes massive amounts of food feeding the world’s largest population. The food processing scenario in India is forged by the cooperatives, communities and traditions, influence by the environment, landscape, history, and culture. This program will be a chance for you to experience the wonders of this diverse agricultural and food science landscape through farm visits, dairy and food processing industry tours, leading agricultural institutions, food and clothing markets, while also seeing historical sites including tombs, forts, and the Taj Mahal (one of the seven wonders of the world).
This will be a great opportunity for the students to experience, the culture, food, and lifestyle of the people of India, and will fit into a variety and majors and minor programs including agricultural science, agriculture systems technologies, bioprocessing, animal science, dairy science, food science, nutrition, agricultural business, global studies, and tourism. There will be a few sessions prior to the 15-day excursion to familiarize everyone with the foundations of India’s food and agricultural system, governmental roles and key historical events shaping it today, current infrastructure, and cultural norms in India.
