Getting Started

If you are an SDSU student and you are here on the database for the first time, you likely are going to apply for a program.

Here are your steps:

FIRST TIME ON THIS SITE:
1.  You will get started by first clicking on Programs on the upper left side of the page.  Do not click on Login the first time you are here.
2.  Once you have found your Program on the list,  read about it and see the cost then click Apply Now.
3.  Now you will be prompted to Login
4.  Click on Login with Campus ID and in the next screen use your MyState Login and MyState PW

If you are an SDSU student and you are here on the database after you have applied for a program, you will now go to LOGIN on the upper right to get back in the system.  Click LOGIN, next click Login with Campus ID and again, use your MyState Login and PW to access the system and your personal page.

To complete your application you will need to complete the following:

  1. Click on the links and electronically sign three of the SDSU documents showing you read and understand them.   On each document, you will scroll down to the bottom of the document and electronically sign. The three required documents for all programs are the SDSU Behavior agreement document, the SDSU Acceptance of Risk, Release and Waiver document, and the Payment/Withdrawal Policy document.  You are not obligated to the program until after you have Committed to the program AND the program is confirmed as going.

After the signature documents are completed, you can be approved/or accepted for your program at SDSU. Once you have been accepted, you will need to click the Commit button to reserve your spot on the program .

Clicking the Commit button means that you agree to take part in the program once the program is confirmed with enough students to go. If you have changed your mind after you have been accepted, then click the Decline program to be removed from the program. Please be sure you are checking your SDSU Jack's email for any updates.

If you are an International Student or Permanent Resident with a non-US Passport

Fully enrolled SDSU students can take part in an education abroad program.  However, very often International students or Permanent Residents with a non-US Passport, will require a Visa to participate on an education abroad program.  Please set up an appointment with the Education Abroad staff to determine wheter your participation on the program you have chosen will be workable.  Contact Sally.Gillman@sdstate.edu or Cassandra.Stangeland@sdstate.edu with questions.

If you are not an SDSU student, but studying at another institution:

You will apply for a program by finding it in this database. When asked if you have a User Name and Password you will say NO!

After completing some information where you will specify your STATE and then your INSTITUTION, the system will then send you a User Name and Password. If you are from outside South Dakota and seeking a degree at another institution, you will need to apply to South Dakota State University as a non-degree student, in order to participate in an international program and the credit. If you are enrolled at another SDBOR school, you will not need to apply as a non-degree student.

Students who are not SDSU students will also be prompted to provide a scan of their school ID card to be authenticated in the SDSU system. Once you have done this, you will be able to complete your application to go abroad with SDSU

  1. Click on the links and read the Signature documents. On each one, you will scroll down to the bottom of the document and electronically sign. The three required documents for all programs are the SDSU Behavior agreement document, the SDSU Acceptance of Risk, Release and Waiver document, and the Payment/Withdrawal Policy document. After these items are completed, you can be approved/or accepted for your program at SDSU.

You will know your application is complete when the boxes are checked! Once you have been approved or accepted, you will need to click the Commit button that will appear. Clicking the Commit button means that you agree to take part in the program once the program is confirmed with enough students to go.  If you have changed your mind, then click the Decline program to be removed from the program.

A Confirmed Program

After we have the number of students on which we have based a budget fully committed to the program, we confirm the program will be going with an email to all students. At this time, we also report to students how they will be billed for a program. Billing is typically in two payments. First is a confirmation deposit of $500.00.  Second is the remaining amount of the program package billed about 8 weeks before the travel begins. Both payments are billed on or near the 10th of the month through your student account.

Withdrawing from a Confirmed Program

Students can withdraw from a program at any time before the program is confirmed if they have been accepted.  Students will see a decline button that permits them to withdraw themselves on their application page. If students have committed to the program, they must immediately email Sally Gillman, Director of Education Abroad to request to be withdrawn from the program. After the program is confirmed, students are obligated to pay for the program if they participate in the travel program or not. The only mechanism to be considered for withdrawal is the Compassionate Withdrawal Process if the student has suffered a sudden illness or accident preventing them from travel. Documentation from a physician or counselor or other authority is required.  Please request the Compassionate Withdrawal materials from Sally Gillman, Director of Education Abroad
