FAQ's

What can I do with Kaya?
You can intern, volunteer or study abroad on a Kaya program in a wide range of fields! We have programs in Microfinance, Environmental Studies, Gender Studies and more, or you can volunteer as a coach for kids! You can assist teachers, care for orphaned wildlife, work with lion researchers, and so much more. We partner with local, grassroots NGO's that facilitate responsible, sustainable development in many areas - from Journalism to Animal Science - so you can rest assured that your experience will be as exciting as it is responsible. Because of our wide scope, chances are that we have something that might interest you, or even meets your department's credit requirements. We would suggest reaching out if you can't find the right fit on our website!

Where can I travel in 2021 and 2022? At Kaya, we send students abroad to 30+ countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America. We're reopening projects based on safety for both you and our partners on the ground. Knowing where you can go depends on where you live, what your interests are, and when you want to travel. We have programs open now, and other locations opening in the coming months. Please reach out to us so our Placement Advisors can work with you one-on-one and help find a Kaya program that suits your needs!

What about traveling during Covid-19? As we facilitate a responsible return to travel, our priority at Kaya Responsible Travel is safety. We care deeply about the safety of both our participants and our host communities on the ground. With that in mind, we have developed and implemented extensive plans for selected projects in the Americas, Africa, and Asia where we can continue to carry out important work with our participants in a low-risk manner. You can learn about our reopening plans here.

Not Ready to Travel Yet? That’s okay. You can apply and make future plans to your heart’s content. You won’t be responsible for your Confirmation Payment until travel is possible and you commit to a departure date. We expect to have even more projects reopening in 2022. In the meantime, you may wish to consider joining us on a Virtual Internship where you can gain international experience in your field and engage in cross-cultural exchange, with discounts on future travel with Kaya.
